Company History

Inception
Proctor Sales (PSi) was founded in Seattle by John Proctor in 1957. The venture started as a small manufacturing company which produced natural gas to propane conversion plants and evolved into a sales rep business as more HVAC manufacturers sought representation in the growing Pacific Northwest. PSi still represents Weil-McLain which named the fledgling company its representative on April 3, 1957.

Growth
In 1978 the company opened a one employee office in Anchorage Alaska. Dick Newkirk, who later would become the PSi President, became manager of the Alaska operation in 1980. A branch in Spokane, Washington was added in 1984. To add continuity to our sales coverage of the Northwest, PSi purchased the assets of the Bert Farnes Company in Portland, Oregon in 1989. In addition to adding the Oregon territory, this acquisition brought both UL panel and fabrication shops.

Expanded Capabilities
An integral part of PSi's growth is linked to the expansion of our technical services. The Portland office (20,000 sq. ft.) houses our shop and our fabrication facility. We have full ETL listings for both direct-fired and indirect-fired skid packages.

Service
Another commitment PSi has made to our constituents is to provide authorized service for the mechanical equipment we sell. In 1999 PSi purchased the leading boiler service company in Washington and Alaska, Combustion & Control, which makes us the only Northwest company to back-up our products with 24-hour service in eastern and western Washington, Oregon, and Alaska.

Industrial
PSi purchased the Arthur Forsyth Company in 2000 to gain access to the industrial markets of Washington and Oregon. With experienced sales engineers and premiere manufacturers, PSi is uniquely positioned to service both the combustion and process sides of the end-user markets.

Strength and Diversity
We are always looking to be innovators on our industry and to enhance our product, service and solution offerings. In 2007, PSi acquired the K.J. Barnett Company, a rep business that had been in Seattle for 40 years with a proud heritage in the industry. Together we bring nearly a century of experience and service to the mechanical community. The acquisition included the Griswold line of auto flow control valves, as well as lines of packaged pumping systems, heat transfer and other related products. The addition of the lines represented by the K.J. Barnett Company makes PSi stronger in our core competency and more diverse throughout all our offices. We look forward to always providing you the most energy efficient technologies and most experienced sales force in the markets we serve.

Systems Oriented
PSi currently represents a broad range of the leading manufacturers of boilers, burners, pumps, controls, steam process accessories, and related mechanical room equipment. By design, the firm represents manufacturers of "higher than industry standard" quality equipment. By representing value added, not commodity oriented manufacturers, the company has developed a culture which emphasizes why its products are more efficient, easier to install, or less maintenance prone - all advantages to our customers.

PSi currently participates in virtually all facets of hydronics in the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial marketplace. Our entire sales force and our customers can utilize our service department, fabrication shop, and electrical controls and panel capabilities. Our products are exceptionally well positioned from the standpoint of energy efficiency and we offer customers both combustion and steam process energy audits.

Our Employees
All that said, our most important asset is our people. With over 60 employees PSi takes seriously its responsibility to provide a platform for personal growth for all its employees while providing for both themselves and their families. Perhaps a rep firm's most valuable commodity is its employees' cumulative knowledge relative to its markets, customers, applications, and products. Our market driven strategy - that is continually bringing new products, information, and services to our customers - speaks to our intent to be the best possible partner to our manufacturers, contractors, engineers, distributors, facility end-users, and employees.

Today
PSi’s principals are dedicated to carrying the strong history of John Proctor and Dick Newkirk into the future. At each of our offices an owner stands ready to make sure that PSI meets the obligations to our customers, manufacturer partners, and employees. We are extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be of service.

PSi is looking forward to the next 50 years of service to our industry!
